CHIEF ESTIMATOR

We have been retained by our client to identify and recruit a Chief Estimator.  Our client is the largest engineering & construction firm in Latin America. The company, which has completed nearly 2,000 projects in 35 different countries, provides integrated services in the areas of engineering, supply, construction, assembly and management of projects in the civil construction, industrial and special technology areas.  It is a leader in all of the key markets that it serves and is consistently ranked among the Top 225 International Contractors in Engineering-News Record.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the preparation of thorough, accurate and timely estimates for heavy civil, self-perform infrastructure projects.  This position requires an experienced estimating executive with the ability to manage multiple projects and the motivation to excel in his or her career with a worldwide industry leader.

This position will be located in Coral Gables, FL.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Direct estimating functions on large ($100M+), self-perform heavy civil projects in the infrastructure (roads, bridges, highways) sector.
  • Develop, interpret, and execute policy objectives and standards applicable to estimating activities.
  • Interface with other project team members, including Engineering, Construction, Procurement, and Contracts, to properly assess the project risks during the proposal and preconstruction phase.
  • Identify and establish relevant and timely criteria for estimating activities.
  • Manage multiple estimates in a fast-paced and challenging working environment.
  • Review project status reports providing management with a comparative analyses vis-a-vis the bid estimate.
  • Identify problems and support the project team to correct them, and ensure work is being coordinated between the other departments and offices to meet project requirements.
  • Prepare estimating plans and documents for assigned projects.
  • Assist Project Executives in planning the anticipated staffing requirements for assigned and prospective future projects.
  • Assign and monitor the activities of other estimators when necessary.

Key skills and experience that our client desires include:

  • Minimum of 15 years estimating experience on large ($100M+), heavy civil EPC projects in the infrastructure market sector.
  • Must have estimating experience with a self-performing contractor.
  • Strong leadership skills to coordinate the numerous parts of a complex estimate, with the ability to successfully direct and motivate a team.
  • Ability to effectively evaluate and manage risks.
  • Must be driven, trustworthy, and ethical in all dealings.
  • Strong experience in estimating, quantification, pricing, cost analysis, escalation and contingency analysis.
  • Ability to interface effectively with other executives and subcontractor/suppliers, and be willing to take direction and instruction while leading company estimating efforts.
  • Technically strong with capability and flexibility to handle multiple tasks in restricted timeframes to support project goals.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, and construction projects in the heavy civil project industry.
  • Broad knowledge of estimating systems, processes, and applications.
  • Ability to manage conflict and provide resolution using a combination of technical skills, leadership, teamwork, and people management skills.
  • Comfortable working with all levels and functions in a constructive fashion to achieve responsibilities and goals.
  • B.S. in Engineering (Civil preferred)
