EXTENDED POWER UPRATE (EPU) DESIGN ENGINEER

We have been retained by our client to identify and recruit an Extended Power Uprate (EPU) Design Engineer.  Our client is a privately-held, global provider of engineering, construction, and project management services in the areas of energy, transportation, communications, mining, oil and gas, and government services.  Engineering News-Record (ENR)has named it the Top U.S. Construction Contractor for the past 11 years. 

The EPU Project Engineer position resides within a multi-billion dollar, global business unit.  The successful candidate will supervise, plan, and direct the engineering activity (all disciplines) on a project, or designated portions of a project, with technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating engineering assignments.

This position will be located in the United States.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Supervise the engineering activity (all disciplines) on a nuclear power plant Extended Power Uprate project. 
  • Establish the detailed project scope, including basic engineering criteria and assumptions. 
  • Plan and direct engineering assignments on the project with technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating these assignments.
  • Assist with proposals and bids to win project work.
  • Provide oversight and management throughout all phases of the project lifecycle, to include Planning & Scoping, Design, and Implementation.
  • Responsible for project engineering schedules and budgets, and management thereof, as it pertains to the total installed cost of the entire facility.
  • Responsible for maintaining the quality of design and ensuring that the facility is safe for construction and operations personnel.
  • Serve as the primary contact with clients and senior management on matters relating to project engineering progress, quality, scope, and technical/permitting issues.
  • Represent Engineering with respect to major items with suppliers.
  • Establish and maintain access to technical experts in the advanced technologies pertinent to the project, and set up channels of communication to bring this expertise to bear effectively on the engineering effort.

Key skills and experience that our client desires include:

  • Minimum 15 years of nuclear power plant-engineering experience with at least 3 years of Extended Power Uprate experience and 5 years of multi-functional supervisory/leadership experience in the commercial nuclear power industry.
  • Technical knowledge of related engineering systems, engineering calculations, application of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computers.
  • Proficient knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved.
  • Current knowledge of new methods of design and construction of nuclear power plants.
  • Knowledge of USNRC regulations related to design engineering of nuclear power plants.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Requires broad knowledge of administrative practices.
  • Must be willing to relocate to project site locations, as required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) Registration.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (or related discipline)
