GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT
We have been retained by our client to identify and recruit a General Superintendent. Our client is the largest engineering & construction firm in Latin America. The company, which has completed nearly 2,000 projects in 35 different countries, provides integrated services in the areas of engineering, supply, construction, assembly and management of projects in the civil construction, industrial and special technology areas. It is a leader in all of the key markets that it serves and is consistently ranked among the Top 225 International Contractors in Engineering-News Record.
This position resides within a multimillion dollar U.S. division of the parent company. The successful candidate will be responsible for the successful execution and completion of heavy civil, self-perform infrastructure projects. This position requires an experienced leader with the ability to effectively manager major projects and the motivation to excel in his or her career with a worldwide industry leader.
This position will be located in Miami, FL (home office) with relocation to project sites.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Assigned to a field construction organization responsible for field operations of a major infrastructure project or multiple projects.
- Ensure that assigned jobsites operations are in compliance with design/specifications, completed on schedule, within budget, and to qualify standards.
- Direct the lead personnel of the operating sections, i.e. Construction Engineering, Quality Control and Supervision.
- Responsible for field staffing on an as-needed basis.
- Assist in jobsite mobilization, setup, and security, and review subcontract/vendor billings.
- Provide interpretation of disputes and evaluate changed conditions.
- Provide on-site company representation to client personnel.
- Manage the preparation of the field portion of the project execution plan.
- Responsible for jobsite operations, as assigned, including all on site activities of the company, subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and their representatives.
- Work with the Project Manager, Project Engineer and Procurement Manager harmoniously to deliver the project as sold or better.
- Establish, coordinate and implement project field schedules, field staffing charts and material and equipment requirements.
Key skills and experience that our client desires include:
- 15+ years heavy civil construction management experience with large ($100M), self-perform, heavy civil infrastructure projects.
- Ability to attract top talent for projects on an "as needed" basis.
- Must be willing to relocate/travel to project locations.
- Must be able to read drawings and contracts with the ability to "plan the work" and develop means and methods in reference to scheduling, phasing, subcontracting decisions, etc.
- Ability to make decisions regarding the size and quantity of heavy equipment as well as working crews.
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines.
- Demonstrated skill with identifying, analyzing, and solving problems.
- Must be currently responsible (under the leadership of a Project Director) for field operations including effective and timely project mobilization.
- Ability to manage conflict and provide resolution using a combination of technical skills, leadership, teamwork, and people management skills.
- Knowledgeable in heavy civil construction methods and procedure.
- An advanced knowledge of environmental, safety and health is essential.
- Strong track record of following procedures and adhering to safety regulations.
- Proven record of consistently meeting Construction and Schedule goals.
- B.S. in Engineering or Construction Management (preferred)
- Equivalent technical or professional experience
