VICE PRESIDENT & MANAGER, ESTIMATING
We have been retained by our client to identify and recruit a Vice President & Manager, Estimating. Our client is a global leader in full-service, engineering, design, procurement, construction, and maintenance services serving the energy, chemicals, environmental, infrastructure and emergency response industries.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the preparation of thorough, accurate and timely estimates for all projects within the multi-billion dollar Power Division. This position requires an experienced estimating executive with the ability to manage multiple projects and the motivation to excel in his or her career with an industry leader.
This position will be located in the United States.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Direct estimating functions on large ($400M+), lump sum industrial projects in the power sector, including both fossil and nuclear.
- Develop, interpret, and execute policy objectives and standards applicable to estimating activities.
- Interface with other project team members, including Engineering, Construction, Procurement, and Contracts, to properly assess the project risks during the proposal and preconstruction phase.
- Identify and establish relevant and timely criteria for estimating activities.
- Manage multiple estimates in a fast-paced and challenging working environment.
- Review project status reports providing management a comparative analyses to bid estimates.
- Identify problems and support the project team to correct them, and ensure work is being coordinated between the other departments and offices to meet project requirements.
- Manage the preparation of estimating plans and documents for assigned projects.
- Assist Project Executives in planning the anticipated staffing requirements for assigned and prospective future power projects.
- Assign and monitor estimator activities and serve as a leader and resource for the estimating team.
Key skills and experience that our client desires include:
- Minimum of 15 years estimating experience on large ($400M+), heavy civil EPC projects in the power market sector.
- Strong technical knowledge of both fossil and nuclear power plants.
- Must have estimating experience with a self-performing contractor.
- Strong leadership skills to coordinate the numerous parts of a complex estimate, with the ability to successfully direct and motivate a team.
- Ability to effectively evaluate and manage risks, and develop contingency analysis.
- Must be driven, trustworthy, and ethical in all dealings.
- Strong experience in estimating, quantification, pricing, cost analysis, escalation and contingency analysis.
- Ability to interface effectively with other executives and subcontractor/suppliers, and be willing to take direction and instruction while leading company estimating efforts.
- Technically strong with capability and flexibility to handle multiple tasks in restricted timeframes to support project goals.
- Must understand the relationship of actual project cost feedbacks to the estimating process and the relationship with scheduling.
- Demonstrated skill with identifying, analyzing, and solving problems.
- Advanced knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, and construction projects in the power industry.
- Broad knowledge of estimating systems, processes, and applications.
- Comfortable working with all levels and functions in a constructive fashion to achieve responsibilities and goals.
- B.S. in Engineering (or experience equivalent)
