E. BRIAN SMITH
President and Founder

Mr. Smith is a highly respected leader in executive search in the engineering and construction industry. With over 40 years of experience, Brian has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to recruit the best candidates for our clients. His client and candidate relationships span decades, and he is sought out for the strategic, critical searches.

Mr. Smith began his recruiting career in 1997 with the international firm, Ray & Berndtson. Realizing that few recruiters understood and served the engineering and construction industries, and that the demand for talent was growing, he founded CareerSMITH to specifically serve this set of clients. Brian directs the strategy and business development activities of CareerSMITH, nurturing his existing client relationships while developing new clients. He also is rigorously involved in the candidate interviews, appraisals, and the presentation of the candidates to our clients.

Mr. Smith began his corporate career with Fluor Daniel in 1972. At Fluor Daniel, he had increasing responsibilities, including President of Venture Capital, Group Senior Vice President in charge of Middle East & Africa, Vice President of Infrastructure, Project Manager of Mining and Metals, and Manager of Cost, Scheduling and Estimating. Brian joined Fluor Daniel when they purchased Utah Engineering and Construction where he was Chief Engineer in charge of building military bases in Thailand.

In 1986 Mr. Smith joined International Technology Corporation, a publicly-traded environmental and hazardous waste management services company. He earned the position of President and Chief Operating Officer, helping to establish the company as the nation's largest hazardous waste engineering company.

In 1992 Mr. Smith founded Smith Technology, a firm focused on providing engineering consulting and remediation services to commercial and government clients. As President and CEO, it grew to be the tenth largest company of its kind in the United States with 1100 employees. He sold the company in 1997.

Brian spent six years in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps. He earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and a MS in Financial Management from George Washington University.
